Steering grid

The steering grid is specially developed for ships with very shallow drafts. This grid is also particularly suitable for maneuvering with high precision. The system can be installed not only as a bow thruster but also as an emergency and even a primary propulsion system. Steering grids can be powered electrically, hydraulically, or by a diesel engine.

The steering grid must be placed on a flat ship's bottom. Due to the all-in-one housing, the steering grid is very easy to install, making it especially suitable for existing vessels.

On the horizontally positioned propeller side, water is drawn in. The water is then directed into the housing to a 360-degree rotatable steering grid with specially designed blades. This technology creates a powerful water jet, allowing the ship to maneuver with the utmost precision.

Verhaar Omega offers not only a horizontal setup for the drive motor but also a vertical setup for both electric and hydraulic versions.

A Verhaar Omega steering grid has a unique design where the gearbox and propeller shaft lubrication are separated. This design prevents water from entering the gearbox, making it impossible for oil to leak into the external water.

In 2017, Verhaar Omega introduced its newest model of steering grids, aiming for higher efficiency and even quieter operation. We are proud to say that these goals have been more than achieved! The efficiency has reached approximately 8.2 kg/kW, and the noise level has been significantly reduced.

"Steering grids are ideal for ships that require extremely precise maneuvering."

VBS1000Sr-N

The VBS Sr-H steering grid installations with a slanted propeller are specifically developed as emergency or primary propulsion. Of course, the installation can also be used as a bow thruster installation.

The steering grid installation must be placed on a flat ship's bottom. Due to the all-in-one housing, the VBS Sr-H series is also very suitable for existing ships due to its simple installation.

On the slanted propeller side, water is drawn in. The water is then directed into the housing to a 360-degree rotatable steering grid with specially designed blades. This technology creates a powerful water jet, allowing the ship to maneuver with the utmost precision.

Due to the slanted propeller, the VBS Sr-H series is highly suitable for propulsion, where water flows through the unit in a sort of wave motion. This keeps efficiency high at higher sailing speeds. The VBS Sr-H series steering grids can be powered electrically or hydraulically. This type of steering grid is available only in a vertical setup.

The absence of a gearbox, also known as "direct drive," makes the system cost-effective and requires less maintenance.
